Heavy Periods are Easily Treated with Her Option®

One in four women experience unusually heavy periods every month, also known as menorrhagia, that can interfere with life’s regular activities. If you’re in this category, you may find that your periods:

  • Last longer than seven days
  • Require frequent change of protection, or double protection
  • Cause tiredness, fatigue, or shortness of breath (symptoms of anemia)
  • Leave you with abdominal pain, severe cramps, or headaches

There are a number of different treatments for heavy periods, from hormone therapy to a complete hysterectomy, and the suitability of each depends on several different factors, including the cause of the bleeding, your specific symptoms, whether you desire to become pregnant in the future, and others.

One treatment for heavy periods that we offer to women who aren’t planning to become pregnant and aren’t interested in taking hormones or having surgery is the Her Option® procedure. Her Option was specifically designed to be performed in a doctor’s office setting, takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and requires no anesthesia. It’s also covered by most insurance companies. Many women find themselves back to their normal activity level the day following the procedure.

The Her Option procedure is a cryoablation therapy, which uses a medical device that emits cold temperatures to freeze the endometrium (the lining of the uterus). With the endometrium left reduced or eliminated as a result, there is less tissue to shed each period, meaning heavy periods are reduced. Most women who undergo Her Option find their periods are reduced to normal levels and have an improvement in their PMS symptoms.

Don’t continue to suffer with heavy periods each month. Make an appointment with one of our doctors today to talk about your options and to see if Her Option may be right for you. You also can find more information on the Her Option website.
